This Venue Is One Of The First To Help “the Blues Crawlers” Display Their Talent. After Many Years Of Playing, The Blues Crawlers’ Work Has Been Known Through Austin And The State Of Texas, Nationaly And Internationaly.

The Blues Crawlers Facts

The name was created by Gil Jenkins. Some of the great musicians in Austin joined the band which gave the blues crawlers their sound. The blues crawlers became a trademark name and now performs for major acts for blues/r&b/classic rock/jazz venues around the world. Band members are union members who are well equipped to travel anywhere in/or out of the country. The new cd “Fat back’n” was submitted for the w.C. Handy awards. Performed with such greats, w.C.Clark, legendary buddy miles, td bell, east side horns, bobby blue bland, and Jimmie Vaughn, Gatemouth Brown, etc. Etc,. Buddy Guy,

Band Bio

Gil Jenkins – Drummer/Vocals/Songwriter

Gil’s family is from South Carolina, and North Carolina, he has always had great musical influence’s from the biggest names in music, such as Dizzy Gillespie, James Brown, Maceo Parker, Thelonious Monk, Peabo Bryson, Sun Raa,( Tina Turner family by marriage), Max Roach and many others, who are from the Carolina’s and friends of the Jenkins family even still today.

 

At a younger age was mentored by these musicians in music clinics, during the years of segregation, have been on the scene, every time his uncle Nat Kennedy was drummer for everyone on this list, and a few times was able to set in and learn the trade. Moving to Austin, TX. He has played with W.C. Clark, TD Bell, The Blues Specialists, Funk & Beyond, and Unique Style, Rob Roy Parnell, Toby Anderson, Martin Banks, Larry Williams, Pat (Homeboy) Patterson just to name a few. In 1992, he started the band The Blues Crawlers.

 

At this time, the band has three CD’s out on the market, an original web site (wwwthebluescrawlers.com), and touring nationally and internationally. Gil is an active member of the American Federation of Musicians (Local 433), ASCAP,  National Music Publishers Association, and member of the Grammy’s (NARAS), and The Blues Foundation.

Charles Couch – Guitarist

Charles Couch is an accomplished guitarist with over 30 years of playing, performing and teaching experience. He received his degree from Berklee College Of Music with honors and is well versed in a variety of styles with an emphasis on jazz. Upon graduating, Charles moved back to his hometown of Charlotte, NC, where he connected with friends and fellow musicians and performed at venues all across the southeast. Charles’ musical journey then led him to New York City, where he quickly became a part of New York’s illustrious jazz scene, performing regularly with world class musicians. Charles now resides in Austin, TX where he performs regularly.

Jim Nelson – Vocals/Keys/Piano

Jim was born and raised in southern Louisiana and discovered his love of piano through the music of New Orleans great Dr. John. Jim’s soulful vocals are a legacy of his other great musical influence – Ray Charles. After 30 plus years as a singer, songwriter, and keyboard player Jim will always put his distinctive mark on any musical venture. He has been a mainstay with The Blues Crawlers

Larry Eisenberg – Bass/Keys/Harp

Born in Brooklyn, NY, Larry has been in the central Texas area most of his adult life. Words cannot explain the beautiful sound that comes from the veteran fingers every time he plays his instruments. He has played with Bobby Mack, Rotel and The Hot Tomatoes, Chuck Berry, Rob Roy Parnell, The Platters, and The Blues Crawlers for the past five years.

Larry ability to play different styles with class, from Stand-Up Bass, to Electric-Bass, Keyboards, and Harp, he truly is the real deal and a master of his trade, (Music). He teaches music to children to date and stays busy touring with others as well as with
The Blues Crawlers.

Tim Peterson – Sax/Woodwind/Flute

A musician for 40 years, Tim attended North Texas State University and has played In the Dallas area since the 70’s and the 80’s. Tim took his skills on the road to New York City with a band by the name of Electrified Action,  as well as playing the Lake Tahoe area with Chuck Jackson.

You can find Tim’s work on the song African Queen with some of the members of Kool & The Gang. He has played and wrote music in the 80’s in Washington DC area before moving back to the Austin area in the 90’s. Tim has been continuing his craft by recording and writing, Rhythm & Blues songs as well as contemporary Gospel, Soul and Jazz tunes and now with his peers. The Blues Crawlers and Blue Carousel.
